Our Approach

Dream Engine’s true documentary-style is unique in the industry. It has been built on training at VCA Film School in Melbourne, and refined through shooting hundreds of family event DVD’s, as well as many documentary projects funded by organisations including the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Festivals Australia, Telstra Countrywide and the Next Wave Festival.

Documentary-style
‘Documentary-style’ is a film-making technique that is devoted to capturing the truth of the moment on film in the most authentic, natural and uncontrived way. We apply this philosophy in creating your wedding DVD so as to most closely capture the feeling of what it was like to be there.

Unposed
The best event DVD’s are the ones where the participants feel free to relax, connect with friends and family, and really give themselves to the moment. Rather than directing you, or asking you to pose in unnatural situations, we unobtrusively capture the real story of the night as it unfolds. Often the best moments are the ones that occur when you’re not aware of the camera.

Sounds Good
Sound is often a neglected area when it comes to event DVD’s. We use a range of industry standard microphones including wireless radio microphones to capture clear and crisp sound. All too often, traditional event DVD’s discard the real sound, replacing it with music. While Dream Engine makes extensive use of the music you choose for the edit, we pay close attention to recording and including the real sound of the day.

In the Edit
Documentary-style editing is all about capturing the essence of the people in the film, and the energy between them. We spend a number of days skillfully selecting, refining and combining the shots to convey the emotion and beauty of the day.
